JOE CRAWFORD PROVIDES consulting and litigation support to investors,
developers, borrowers, lenders and attorneys regarding real estate
finance, investment and strategic planning, including workouts & restructures.
Mr. Crawford is the former Chief Operating Officer of Amstar Group,
Ltd., a private real estate company, which at that time had $700 million
in assets and diversified income property investment operations across
the United States. Prior to Amstar, he was associated with Citicorp
Real Estate, Inc., the former commercial real estate finance subsidiary
of Citigroup/Citibank, N.A. prior to its merger with Travelers Group.
Mr. Crawford held a variety of senior banker and management positions
with Citicorp Real Estate during his ten-year employment, including
City Head for the Dallas office. Prior to that he had an additional
seven years banking experience, including five years with a predecessor
entity of Bank of America in Texas. He has also served as Adjunct Instructor
of Finance at the University of Montana, teaching an upper division
undergraduate course in Real Estate Finance & Investments with
principal focus on income-producing properties.
During his career in real estate Mr. Crawford has had involvement with over $7.25 billion in real estate transactions, involving all property types, in twenty states in the U.S. In addition to his experiences investing in income properties, both development and acquisition/rehabilitation, Mr. Crawford has had extensive involvement with construction and permanent financing, as well as large multi-bank credit facilities. He is also well-experienced in commercial real estate workouts, real estate debt restructures, and commercial loan workouts, including complex out-of-court restructures for both large commercial developers and national homebuilders. His experiences also include involvement with capital markets transactions such as: leverage buy-outs, initial public offerings, private placements of equity and debt (including commercial mortgage backed securities), interest rate hedges/swaps, mergers and acquisitions and commercial paper financing. Mr. Crawford also serves as an expert witness, primarily in the areas of commercial real estate, commercial real estate lending, commercial banking practices, commercial lending and lender liability.
Mr. Crawford holds a BBA degree in Economics & Finance from Baylor University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. He has had articles published in Real Estate Review and Capital Sources for Real Estate. Mr. Crawford previously served on the Board of Directors of the National Housing Council, the leading trade and advocacy association for the apartment industry. In addition, he has received a number of awards and honors in recognition of his achievements in the real estate industry, including being listed in: Outstanding Young Men of America, Who's Who in the South & Southwest, Who's Who in Finance & Industry, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
